“I made the decision to enroll in the LA(H)B in order to develop my experience in hospital architecture and to learn more about healthcare infrastructure in a different context, and where better than in Barcelona to expand my knowledge. My decision was also influenced by friends of mine who are doctors and they were very insistent that I study abroad to improve my formation so I could continue to grow in healthcare design.”

“In general the experience of the LA(H) B has been important in my professional development. In addition to learning on a technical level about specific strategies and decision making, it was enriching to be in contact with other professionals and share experiences. As architects we need to be aware of how we can contribute to the improvement of  everyday life and above all how we can improve the coexistence of people and the environment, which is an urgent issue today. In this sense, healthcare infrastructure is composed of urban and/or rural facilities that because of their scope have a huge impact on people, taking on an important role in the quality of life and the environment.”

Curriculum

Álvaro Urbina was born in Rancagua, Chile and earned his architecture degree from the Universidad de Viña del Mar. In 2015 he joined the LA(H)B team in the first edition of the postgraduate course Hospital Architecture for the 21st Century. We were happy to welcome him back to Barcelona in 2017 when he returned to the LA(H)B to participate as a lecturer and guest critic.
