The 21st-century hospital has left behind past associations with illness to become a place for health. Taking advantage of the woodland site in Sant Cugat, the proposal is for a building in full contact with its natural surroundings, helping patients and hospital staff alike to appreciate the space as a place to improve their quality of life. The patios open into the forest so the building blends into its environment. The light structure of the technical corridor, which serves as the connection to the critical patients’ floor, enhances this relationship. The public area is positioned parallel to the main entrance road, completing the urban boundary and acting as a filter between the natural and the built elements.
