Workshop 2016: Two sites / One Hospital

The project for this workshop was developed on two sites with very different characteristics: one was an urban site in the center of Barcelona and the other was a wooded suburban lot on the outskirts of Sant Cugat. These markedly different conditions stimulated extensive analysis and discussion about the importance of the site in terms of hospital design. The students working in Barcelona explored the possibilities of multi-level solutions while the students working in Sant Cugat concentrated on a primarily horizontal typology. The requirements for each of the two sites were identical, including all the services of a medium-complexity hospital with approximately 15,000 m² and 90 beds.
